Music Video Representation
This music video is a narrative as well as a performance. The band, Clean Bandit, are seen to be performing their song with artist, Zara Larsson. A story is also portrayed in the music video showing
an individual dealing with grief after the loss of their latest partner - this has been done to let the audience interpret the song anyway they want and also relates to every audience member due to the common occurrence of death within modern society. There are a range of different shots that have been used which I think makes the music video so successful and professional, when creating my own I think I will use this technique to give the illusion of a high profit video. Low angle shots have been used when filming the band and music artist showing their importance. This kind of camera angle is very effective when trying to display an artist who is not commonly known, I think I will use this in my music video as I think it would work well if I chose to do a video for an indie band as most audience members would not be familiar with that type of music.
This music video is a performance. The whole video consists of each music artist, Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lil Wayne, performing this song with people occasionally standing in the background - the video takes place in different settings e.g. London. This video wouldn't draw people in as much due to the lack of point behind it. Different style of clothing is used for the main artist in order to separate her in the video and make her unique when compared with other music artists that perform other genre of music. At the start of the video the cuts are edited in a fast pace motion this has been done in order for the cuts to fit the beat of the music making the video professional and of high quality standard. Mid shots are mostly used throughout the video due to the genre of the music, this is where the audience can see the artists body language and clothing in order to determine their style. This is what will attract and appeal to the right kind of audience members. The lighting used is bright to fit with the high standard filming and the quality of the cameras.
This music video is a disjunctive. The clips in the video fit with the style of music with the quality of the cameras and the people used creating an old fashioned look making it seem different and unique when compared with other music videos. At the start of the video a lot of extreme close ups are used in order to bring the audiences attention to minor details, this has been done for the audience to interpret the clips any way they want and link it to the song. In the middle of the video when the beat drops the cuts speed up and become more fast paced as well as fit with the beat of the music. This has been done in order for the audience to be pulled in by the music and purchase the song. The lighting is bright and ambient to show that the individuals are outside in the daylight, dark lighting has been used when they are in indoors inside the cave jumping to the music. Clothing is very simple and basic making it fit nicely with the setting and creating a minimal look that makes the video unique when compared with other music videos.
This music video is a performance and also a disjunctive. The band, The 1975, is seen to be performing their single 'The Sound' which fits with the performance genre of a music video, however I would also say it's a disjunctive as well due to the band performing inside a box and people watching dressed in white clothing giving a sense of prisoners. A lot of low angle and pan camerawork has been used in order to separate the band from the individuals outside of the box this has also been done through the clothing by the band wearing black and the others wearing white. This way the audience can recognise the band and continue to purchase their songs. The lighting is very dark and contrasting which fits with the style of music and so will attract and appeal to the right kind of people that are interested in this type of music. The cuts speed up as the video goes on this has been done so that it fits with the beat of the music, this makes the video more aesthetically pleasing to watch for the audience members and so are more likely to enjoy the music.
This music video is mostly narrative but also contains some performance. The music artist, Rihanna, in some clips is miming the lyrics but for the rest she is seen to be reflecting the meaning of the song into the video. The cuts used within the video are spaced out evenly and don't speed up or slow down accordingly to the beat of the music. The music stops every so often so the audience can hear dialogue or sound effects that emphasise the narrative of the music video. The setting constantly changes giving a sense of a professional film, this has been done due to this particular music artists wide and diverse audience that would easily be attracted by a high budget music video. The lighting changes depending on the setting their in, for example when their outside a bright light is used, when inside or later in the day a darker light is used. Cross cutting is used a lot when showing two things are happening at once, this happens towards the end of the video when all clues are put together and it shows the audience who the video is about.
This music video is a narrative. The cuts are slow and appear at a reasonable pace, this has been done so the audience can pay attention to the story and understand what it means so this way they can interpret the song their own way. The lighting is ambient and natural looking which fits with the setting displayed, despite being inside the lighting is quite bright which shows a positive outlook within this story. The clothing the people are wearing is very old school and classic which presents an indie look making it fit nicely with the genre of music. This would help attract and appeal to the right audience and so would make the band much more successful despite being an indie band. Both a steadicam and hand held camera are used at different times to fit with what the audience is seeing, this makes the video look more professional and well put together showing a lot of care and thought has gone into creating it. I think when making my own video I will use a lot of lot of different camera techniques like this video as I think it's much more effective and fits nicely with the style of music.
This music video is a performance. The video consists of dark lighting and the shots have been edited to black and white, this has been done to make the video seem more classic and well put together. Despite the music being of the indie genre the music seems quite professional due to the different camera techniques used. The clothing of the artist is classy because of the suit he is wearing which adds to making this video different to others. The music artist also performs weird dancing while still singing the song, this has been done to bring the audiences attention to the song and encourages them to purchase their music more frequently. The setting is very basic which is explained by the indie genre however it may have also been done due to the style of video they have created. The cuts are slow and spaced out which fits with the simplistic look and fits with the beat of music which again brings the audience's attention to it. After looking at this video I think I may use a basic setting for my music video as I think it's very effective yet simple to achieve.
This music video is mostly a performance. At the start of the video a close up is used as the music artist, Lorde, sings the song. This has been done for the audience to witness her facial expression in order to interpret the song how they want and relate it to their everyday life. A steadicam has been used throughout the video, this has been done as it fits with what the audience is seeing. During the club scenes the music artist dances around so the camera remains steady so viewers don't become confused or disorientated. The lighting is quite dark to show the time of day but some scenes contain different colour lights e.g. pink, red - this has been done to fit with the genre of music and this way the video looks unique and different when compared with other music videos. The setting is in the city and changes from being outside in a taxi to being inside a night club. By doing this it fits with the city scene and so makes the performance much more effective. During the chorus the cuts become faster in order to match the beat of the music so the video looks professional.
This music video is a performance and disjunctive. The quality of the camera is very old fashioned making the video seem unique and different to other music videos. The clothing of both music artists is very casual but smart with contrasting colours e.g. black and red. The cuts within the video are very slow and calm which does match with the pace of the music and so makes a very effective video that is professional and of high quality standard. A pan is used when the main music artist, Lana Del Ray, walks into another scene. This has been done to show the transition perfectly and to make the cuts flow nicely in order to create a continuous editing technique. As this kind of camerawork isn't common in music videos I think it would make my video really effective if I featured it in it, if I chose to do an indie song I think this would fit the genre. The lighting changes from bright to dark to show the different settings, at the start she was performing in a studio which consists of extreme bright lighting but when she moves to the top of the Hollywood sign the lighting is dark to show it's daytime.
This music video is a narrative. This video is filmed slightly differently to other music videos as this one is filmed with the camera strapped onto the artist, in this case Ed Sheeran, and shows the view of this individuals perspective. I think this kind of technique is extremely effective and so I would like to recreate this for my video however I don't think it would be achieved as well due to this one being more much high budget and so looks professional. The video is a narrative as the girl used for the video reflects the meaning behind the song and so audience members can interpret the video and song any way they like. Lighting used is mostly dark to show time of day and to portray the setting perfectly for the audience. Clothing is very casual and laid back to display the date of when the video was filmed and so is relatable to all audience members. At the start of the music video a fast pace motion is used where everything happening is sped up, this makes it much more interesting to watch as it avoids any boredom for viewers by skipping the less interesting events.
